The Mystery Taken Out of Text, Copy and Fonts. The simple definition of the word font, in relation to web design points to the style of the lettering and/or text on the web page that you are viewing. There are two methods to the creation of text on a page through the use of either text fonts or image fonts. To illustrate the difference between text and image fonts imagine a typewritten sheet versus a painting. In a painting I can represent anything I want, including letters. But with a typewriter I can represent only letters. Text fonts are conveyed through actual words being inserted with the keyboard into the HTML document just as the words you are reading at this very moment are. Do You Crave Harmony? Harmony can be defined as a pleasing arrangement of parts, whether it be music, poetry, color, or even an ice cream sundae. In visual experiences, harmony is something that is pleasing to the eye. It engages the viewer and it creates an inner sense of order, a balance in the visual experience. When something is not harmonious, it's either boring or chaotic. At one extreme is a visual experience that is so bland that the viewer is not engaged. The human brain will reject under-stimulating information. At the other extreme is a visual experience that is so overdone, so chaotic ....[take me there]

THE HEADER AND CSS: The header on this page contains CSS in the form of an opacque bar which appears when the mouse touches each menu selection. As well, the graphics in this menu are positioned using CSS concepts. And also, the text appearing in this header area is styled with CSS. By putting all this information into a CSS file, our page loads faster, and we can adjust the styling and positioning very easily from the CSS file.

CSS in HEADLINES AND SUB ITEMS: Note how the blue lettering and black lettering in this headline are of different sizes. This sizing and coloring is controlled by the Cascading Style Sheet. The positioning of these lines also are controlled by the CSS. Also controlled by CSS are paragraph positioning, indentation and margins, font bolding and italicizing, and alignment within a textbox.

CSS in URL LINK MENU WITH TEXT BOX: With the use of a Cascading Style Sheet file, the links in this column can be styled to deliver a mouse-over. When your cursor touches the link the link can change in a number of visually attractive ways such as: the colour and size of the text can change, the text can become highlighted or underlined and the text can become italicized or bolded.

CSS in TEXTUAL LINK MENU: This link menu can be positioned using a Cascading Style Sheet file. The background colour of the boxes, the bullet style and color, and the size and color of the thin bar in each box (hard rule) can be controlled using CSS. We can even control the destination of these links through CSS.

CSS in TEXT TABLE WITH IMAGE: Using a Cascading Style Sheet file, this text box and the image in it can be absolutely positioned. DYNAMIC positioning of text boxes using Cascading Style Sheets (CCS) gives your page a custom look which cannot be achieved with HTML alone. You can overlap boxes giving tension to the information contained in the two overlapping boxes.

TEXT BOX WITH IMAGE: DYNAMIC positioning of text boxes using Cascading Style Sheets (CCS) can give text boxes which are of different sizes and use different coloured backgrounds, fonts and borders. The font types within the boxes can also be varied. The boxes can be placed on the page using preselected positioning points. CSS text boxes are very useful if you are running an ezine site with a lot of sections and pages with a lot of newsline links. The colours can represent themes and the various fonts can be used for headings, subheadings and text.
