Bruce Garner, known affectionately in
the art world as "Bronze" Garner, is one of
Canada's most talented, hardworking, prolific, skilled and
well-known sculptors. He works in mediums other than bronze,
but his bronzes are to be reckoned with. On the corner of
Sparks and Elgin Streets, in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada,
resides Bruce's bear. Fully erect, and standing on his back
legs the bronze bear stands eighteen feet tall. The claws on
his outstretched paws measure a full six inches. The fish he
eats is two feet long. His mighty head, mouth open to reveal
rows of spike sharp teeth measures at least three feet from
snout to ears. It is a formidable work and guards the
corner, providing exciting photo opportunities for tourists
and residents alike.
|
Above left and left are two examples of
Bruce's smaller bronzes approximately one to one and a half
feet tall. You can see the power of these smaller pieces,
which are always constructed with the intention of being
brought up in scale. Bruce's Macquettes and statuettes are
available through Wallack Galleries in Ottawa, Ontario,
Canada. Or you can email Bruce with your inquiries.

Bruce, like many artists, concieves his
work with sketches and paintings. This painting, left, gives
us an idea of Bruce's love of energy charged colours. His
paintings flow like liquid streams of energy bouncing with
electric shapes. Due to Bruce's love of painting, he has
evolved his sculpting into the medium of acrylic, in order
to give three dimensional life to the flat plane of a
canvas.
|
As you can see left, Bruce has
successfully brought his dual dimension colour concepts into
the third dimension with coloured acrylic and these pieces
are as formidable in size and impression as his bronzes.
On Bruce's website you will find a
listing of all his overscale works, along with their
locations. You might be amazed to learn that you walk by
Bruce's work every day, in Toronto, in Ottawa and other
cities, in shopping malls, markets, and in front of
corporate towers. Bruce's body of work is impressive. Owning
a "Bronze" Garner is bound to be an investment for
the future, not to mention a stupendous work to rediscover
every day. At 72 years old, Bruce is still going strong and
hopes, like Picasso, to do art every day till the day he
dies.
