Compass Menu with Iris Mouseover

Alternative and creative. Site must be viewed at 1024 X 1168 resolution.
This graphic is the result of some fairly complex PhotoShop functions. Four separate components, (outer circle, inner circle, star, globe) make up this graphic.
Each of these has its own background and shadow layers. Placement of the symbols on the finished compass graphic required mathematical calculation so that the final product would work smoothly in this table.
Cropping of the final graphic into twelve distinct blocks was done with razor sharp precision. We believe the final product was well worth the effort.
This rollover image is actually a table holding twenty-five different images. Initially, when the page is first viewed, twelve images are apparent housed in a table. With the use of the mouse action running over the symbols on the outer ring of the compass, the rest of the images become apparent and inform of the links to the rest of the site. Note that the symbols also pop to white. Try it. Use your browsers back button to return to this page.
A presentation of this type is a really impressive way to introduce graphics into your website. This particular piece is rather abstract, but you can adapt the idea to your particular company's product. For instance The globe shape with its various mouseovers could contain pictures of the headings that you wish to represent. Examples are:

  • For a car dealership, the heading break out might be: cars, coupes, SUVs, convertibles and trucks. The mouseovers could reveal a picture of each type of vehicle. When the mouseover is at rest and not active, the image showing would be a shot of the car dealership lot itself.

  • For a bakery, the heading break out might be, cookies, cakes, tortes, muffins, bread and birthday cakes. The mouseovers could reveal a picture of each type of baked good. When the mouseover is at rest and not active, the image showing would be a shot of the bakery personnel.

  • For a travel agency, the heading break out might be, Europe, Australia, United States, Pacific Rim, South America and the Orient. The mouseovers could reveal an exotic picture from each area. When the mouseover is at rest and not active, the image showing would be a picture of the travel agency's logo.

  • As you can see this is a very versatile feature to add to a website, introducing fun, interactive elements and impressive graphics.
