Using Textured Backgrounds On Your Site

Alternative and creative. Site must be viewed at 1024 X 1168 resolution.
This is our second page of backgrounds. Hopefully you"ve had a look at our Backgrounds1 page, so you know how this works. If not here is an instructional explanation.
Below are small samples which, when clicked, will engulf the side margins of the top part of the page with background. If you scroll toward the bottom of the page, the screen will be filled entirely.
Clicking on the background will return the original white page. In constructing the web page, the background tile can be made more transparent using filtration, so that there is only a hint of background.
A background on a page can set the mood of the website the same way that interior design can set the mood of a home. When you click the various samples, think about the feeling that you get seeing the screen covered in this picture. You might feel warmed and invited, or you may receive a cold, institutional feeling. We have included our observations for you to consider in the paragraphs below. A background can be created using many sources such as: a logo, a fabric, wallpaper, a texture, a painting, anything that can be photographed. For instance, a jewelery site could have a background of jewelery or a renovation company could use textured wood in their background. These images would compliment the purpose of the site and drive the point home.

1. This sample depicts the type of background that most web design authorities recommend for a website. It's bland colouration appeals to a wide spectrum of people. The finished background is very non-descript and doesn't compete with the text on the page. This background shows the perfect reason that elle A Designs breaks all the rules. 2. This basket weave pattern would be great on a craft site. 3. This tile would work well on a home reno site for the bathroom section.

1. This tile sample would look great on a cooking or recipe website. It has a definite Tuscan feel to it. 2. The embossed peacock feather, of this sample, has a gothic feeling to it. It reminds us of the beautiful arched windows of middle age churches. If we were to use this sample, we might change the color and make it more transparent, so that it doesn't compete as much with the text on the page. 3. Another candidate for a home renovation site.

1. This purple stripe sample should only be used in the margin area. The colour is very strong. 2. We can see this sample as a man's very conservative tie, so this might work for a high end gentlemen's clothing store. Again, the design is strong, so this one would only be used in the margin. 3. This blue tile reminds us of a swimming pool so we would use this on a recreation or pool site.

These three samples would work as a complete page background. Since they are fairly light in colour, they don't compete with the text. 1. This sample looks like the brick found in many public institutions. It would work for a sports web site. 2. A warmer version of the Tuscan kitchen. 3. The reptilian texture of this sample screams Rock and Roll. We would use this on a music site.

1. Another non-descript sample which mimics a rag or linen paper texture. 2. This chicken wire sample would work on a farming or gardening site. 3. This tile definitely competes with the text on the page and should only be used in the margin areas.

1. Another very institutional looking tile or brick. 2.This sample, is actually wall paper, and depicts grapevine, so this background could be aptly used on anything Italian or having to do with wine.
